May OMG Finish

Hexie diamonds back 052517I wasn’t really sure when I set my goal for the month that I’d be able to finish it. I’m beyond thrilled to say I made it! We will be leaving this weekend for a week long trip to my father-in-laws – which is why I didn’t think I’d make this goal. Now the hard part, I think I know how I want to quilt the diamonds but I don’t know what color to use for the quilting. Gray, black, clear, smoke? Luckily it will wait for when we get back from vacation. I’m hoping I’ll have a decision made by then and I can get to work finishing the quilting – I want this quilt on my bed by the end of June!!!

Drank the Kool Aid

EPPParty Block 2 052017Yeah I know, I drank the Kool Aid again. I mentioned last post that I joined #EPPParty, block 2 is finished and I just got all of block 1 hexies basted so I can figure out layout for those. The next block is released when we are on vacation, so I’ll have to try and catch up when we get back.

Temp hexie quilt 052417I know I mentioned in the last post that I didn’t have time for another hexie project. Yet I caved and started the temperature hexie quilt! I have week 1’s rosette ready to applique down and I’m working on finishing up week 2’s rosette. As I have time I’ll pull the fabrics and work on these, maybe with summer break starting on Friday (!) I’ll have a little more time for sewing, Alex and Cassie can play together and won’t need me (yeah right!). I will be ONLY pulling from the 2.5″ scrap bin for these rosettes, so the colors might change from block to block. I’m using a little bit of a different color scheme from Sarah, we don’t normally get to 100° plus I really don’t like brown all that much 🙂

  • 90 Red
  • 80-89 Yellow
  • 70-79 Orange
  • 60-69 Green
  • 50-59 Dark Green
  • 40-49 Blue
  • 30-39 Dark Blue
  • 20-29 Dark Purple
  • 10-19 Light Purple
  • 0-9 Light Pink
  • < 0 WOW (White on White)

Alex graduation 052217In other news, we now have a Kindergarten graduate! His official last day of school is tomorrow, but there was a little ceremony at school Monday and we are just SO proud of him and all he has accomplished in the last year! Cassie wouldn’t stay out of the picture, I actually wanted one with just Alex and I, but that’s the life of a mom! 🙂

EPP Updates

hexie insanity prep 051717OMG it’s been awhile since I’ve done any kind of update on all my hexies! I’ve spent some time in the last week to do a whole bunch of prepping of hexie insanity. I have a bag full of snack sized bags, and each one contains either all the pieces for a flower or a diamond. Everything is in the bag, hole punched hexie papers and the fabrics for each diamond/flower. Based on my spreadsheet I still have more to prep, but it will take me awhile to get through all of these! I just got a new shipment of 3/4″ hexies, needed another bag since I still have all the papers in all the diamonds. I’m waiting until they are all done before I start putting them together and pulling papers out.

hexie diamonds - black 051717Hexie diamond 051717As my OMG (One Monthly Goal) I said I wanted to get all the black pathways quilted – I’m not so sure I’m going to make it! I haven’t been able to spend ANY time working on it this month! I’m hoping I’ll have free time this weekend and I can get it done, because we’ll be heading out the following weekend for a vacation! I have some started, but I can’t even tell how much is completed, I know it’s not halfway, I didn’t spend that much time working on it in April before I had to switch and make the quilt for Alex’s teacher. I’m still trying to decide how I’m going to quilt the diamonds, any one have an idea?? There’s also some half diamonds on the sides that will need to be figured out too!

Block 2 EPPPartyOk, I needed ANOTHER EPP project like I need a hole in my head, BUT I decided to participate in the #EPPParty on Instagram. Blocks are posted every 2 weeks on Mister Domestic and Pat Bravo’s sites. Block 1 is made up of all hexies – 68 of them to be exact. I’m still basting mine but those are easy to do. I opted to not worry about those now and move on to block 2 that was released on Monday. It’s using triangles and squares to create a block. I’m almost halfway done stitching it together, the picture is all the pieces layed out so I knew everything was in the right place. I’m hoping I can finish it tonight while I watch the Cavs beat Boston! 🙂 Since I was already ordering from Paperpieces.com, I decieded to get the papers for the first 6 blocks. Makes it a lot easier than having to cut them out yourself!

Still working on Dear Jane EPP, I don’t have anything new to show yet.

Sarah (over at Sarahdidit.blogspot.com) made a suggestion for a temperature quilt using hexies. What an awesome idea! Maybe if I can get one of these other EPP projects finished I’d jump in and work on this too, right now I just can’t do it! Not enough time to work on all these projects!

*sigh*

eppparty block 1 050817.jpgDid I really need to cut 2.5″ squares today for a new project? Heck no! *sigh* Alex said I should start another new project – and why did I listen to my 6 year old son? Because it’s hexies (at least this block) and it’s EPP. I couldn’t decide what fabric to use, I was thinking about just using my 2.5″ scrap bin, then I saw a jelly roll set I bought awhile ago at a guild meeting from a vendor. I haven’t used many batiks in the past, so hopefully this will be easy to use with EPP.

I’m trying to get hexies basted for a Halloween Hexie swap I’m in, and I really need to be working on the secret projects for Mother’s Day – fabric is pulled for those and I hope to get all the work done tomorrow since some of them NEED to be shipped by Wednesday.

Time for bed, I can’t stay awake any longer!

May OMG (April results)

I was cutting it close to finish my April goals, I very quickly got Cassie’s quilt taken care of and hung back up all in the same day! (I say this because the quilt that was taken down in my office for the quilt show last October STILL hasn’t been hung back on the wall – waiting for hubby to help me!)

The second goal I had for April was to make and complete the quilt for my son’s Kindergarten teacher and be able to deliver this week for Teacher Appreciation week. I went to school and had each child draw a picture for the teacher with fabric markers. Then I put it all together, quilted it and was finishing the binding the beginning of this week. I would have been done sooner, if I hadn’t spelled some kids names wrong on the label! My son caught it and so I had to totally redo the label. I’m very happy to say that she loved the quilt! I even got a special note from her today saying thank you again!

Ok, on to May goals! I feel like the month is already over and it’s only been a week! I’m hoping that I will be able to have all of the black areas quilted on my hexie diamonds quilt. Since I took the Mario quilt off our bed and moved it to the trailer I don’t have anything for our bed right now. The picture is from March when I pinned it, it’s currently balled up on my sewing table since I needed the room for the teacher quilt. With camping and end of year school tasks, plus a vacation the last week of the month I don’t know what I will accomplish, but I’ve got to try!

March OMG Finishes

Hexagon Diamonds 032617I didn’t think I’d be able to do it, but I did manage to finish both of my OMG items this month. We did have a really busy month, so much going on! I was planning on basting my hexagon diamonds quilt during the day at our guild meeting location, however I spend the entire morning at the hospital having a pulmonary function test done – turns out I have asthema! *sigh* Anyway, this past weekend I decided to bite the bullet and get out my old hand quilting PVC frame and start basting. It took 3 episodes of The Quilt Show and a trip to Joann’s for another box of pins, but it is now basted and I can start quilting it.

Good Night Irene 032817While I was working on piecing 2 commission quilts, I worked on the border blocks for Good Night Irene. I’m happy to say that it is now 100% put together and ready for quilting! Not the best picture, but I can’t lay this out in the kitchen or the dog will be all over it! Linking up to Elm Street Quilts.

Today I spent the day quilting the 2 commission quilts that I need to finish. I have the bindings ready, hanging sleeves on them and I am just waiting for the information for the labels, once they are printed I can get them finished and sent to Wisconsin.

Tonight I plan on relaxing with a heating pad on my back and working on some hexie basting for yet another swap I signed up for and hopefully work on the next block for the hexie swap quilt, I’m almost halfway done with the green block.

Past Due Updates

Cassie 3 years old*sigh* This is not my year. I’ve been sick since the beginning of the year and as soon as I think I’m starting to get better I get worse again. I’m almost at the end of another bout of bronchitis and after a pulmonary function test my doctor told me I have asthma. Most likely it was brought on by all the bronchitis episodes this year! Needless to say, since I’ve been sick the last week or 2 I haven’t worked on too much. PLUS we had a birthday to celebrate this last week. My little princess is now 3 years old and I can’t believe how quickly the last year has passed. My sister and I took her for her first hair cut and then took her 3-year-old pictures. This is one of my favorites, although there aren’t that many bad pictures of her (yeah I know I’m biased)! We had a wonderful party and she gets upset when I start to take the decorations down now that celebrations are over.

I did get some work on done on other projects, I’ve been working on and off on Dear Jane EPP blocks and I have 6 of the Row C blocks finished. I had hoped to be working on Row D by now, but it just wasn’t meant to be this month. I will continue on and it will get done when it gets done. I’m in absolutely no hurry on these blocks and I’m enjoying working on them. Getting tired of working on the curved blocks, they are harder to work on than the straight pieces.

xoxohexieswap block 032417I’ve been doing hexie swaps for the last few months and I’ve finally decided what I am going to do with mine. Each swap will be made into a block, about 60 hexies makes a 12.5″ square block. Once I have enough blocks sewn together I’ll sash them and put them together. All of the swap information will be put on the label so I’ll remember where the hexies came from. I just finished the first block last night, these are from the #xoxohexieswap. There weren’t enough to do the whole block, as we only swapped 30, so I pulled from my Valentine’s bag of squares to get enough to finish it. I have the next block planned and ready to start, but I wanted to work on Dear Jane a little before I started putting the next one together. I’m waiting on more hexies to arrive, but some of the swaps aren’t finished yet – I got mine sent in right away and now I have to wait for everyone else to finish and send theirs in. I’m pretty sure I can make 2 blocks from the typography hexies, at least one with the St. Patrick’s Day hexies and I have a few signature hexie flowers that I think I’ll figure out how to put into a block. PLENTY of work to do around here!

I guess my break time is over, time to go work on pinning the second commission quilt so I can start quilting them in the next day or so.

Dear Jane Update and March OMG

B6
B6

I finished the last block in Row B!! This one too awhile, so many tiny pieces! I spent a lot of time this week working on prepping Row C, picking the colors is fun, I’m trying to spread them out in the rows. Once I finished B6, I finished putting together Row B with the sashing and then I put Rows A and B together. OMG I am loving how it looks! I started piecing the first block of Row C yesterday while I was waiting for Alex’s bus and I would have worked on it more last night, but by the time we got home from Mother/Son night at his school I was exhausted!

Row A-B

Good Night Irene 071015I did a good job on my February OMG, now it’s time to chose March’s goal(s). This is a busy month for us, every weekend is booked – out of town guest next weekend, Cassie’s birthday party the following weekend. I think I’ve decided that my goals this month are to finish the border on my Good Night Irene quilt (started in 2014, centered completed July 2015) and to get Hexagon Diamonds basted. I really want to start quilting it and get it finished this year, it’s been sitting here waiting since July 2014! I have the backing and black batting, I just need to baste! I should be able to do it during the day on guild day, since we have the building all day and there are lots of large tables. I’m pretty sure I can work on Good Night Irene border blocks while I work on the last 2 commission quilts that need to be done in the next month or so (still waiting for a due date). Hexie Diamonds 123115

Updates!

Rainbow hexie swap 021717I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I was participating in some hexie swaps on Instagram. The other night I finished basting the Rainbow Swap hexies and I’m just waiting for all the information for shipping (swap hasn’t actually closed yet!). I can’t wait to see what’s coming back to me, I actually have some ideas for a project for these hexies, but nothing is firm yet. I really didn’t need another swap, BUT it’s an addiction and I signed up for another one. Fabrics have been pulled and approved, cut up and pinned to the papers and are ready to be basted as time permits. 80 more hexies that will be added to my collection!

Hexie Insanity 021717Since I was already prepping hexies for the swap I decided to get some more ready for basting for Hexie Insanity, which hasn’t been touched in awhile. I pulled all the completed diamonds out and made sure my spreadsheet was correct as to how many of each color I have completed. I need to make 5 of each color to have enough for the project. I love how this is going to look when it’s all sewn together!

I’m moving along on Dear Jane EPP, Row B has been started and 4 blocks are now completed. I’m working on pulling the fabrics and prepping pieces for the rest of the row today, I found some papers missing for B6 and paperpieces.com is going to be sending me replacements. I like working with companies like this, they are SO helpful!!

Cassie fabrics 021717Last week I ordered some neutral Moda Marbles for the Dear Jane quilt backgrounds. I already had some that I’ve been using and wasn’t sure which color it was so I ordered 2 that looked pretty close. Turns out I actually ordered the 2 colors that I have and I’m going to be mixing between the 2 as backgrounds for the blocks. Anyway, Cassie wanted to play with the brand new fabrics that came Wednesday and I didn’t want her messing with them, but I said she could play with my 2.5″ square bin. She loved it! She was sorting colors, picking colors out and showing me what it was in sign language (she’s learning it in day care) and just plain having fun. Hopefully one day she’ll be a quilter like mommy, but it’s totally up to her!

Hexie Swaps

xoxohexieswap 020417I got some squishy mail today! Oh I love some of the hexies I got from the XOXOHexieSwap! My absolute favorite is the one with the cat (top middle) and the skeleton heart one next to it. These will be added to my pile of Valentine squares that I bought on ebay a couple of years ago. Recently at Joann’s I found a couple of cute fabrics for Valentine’s Day that were on sale and I bought a quarter of a yard of each of them for hexies. Some day when I have time (HA!) I will put all of these together into a wallhanging for the holiday.

floralshexieswapThursday I mailed out the hexies for the floralshexieswap, they should be there on Monday. I won’t see those back for 2-3 weeks I think. I didn’t think I had that many floral fabrics – but I found some in in 2.5″ square bin and some yardage in the cupboard. I even had enough to make sure that some of the fabrics were made into hexies for me to go with the ones that come back!

Rainbowswap2 020417 As if I didn’t have enough hand work to do, I signed up for another hexie swap this week. This one is a rainbow swap and I signed up for 2 sets. I posted this on Instagram once I had all my colors pulled and cut out. I haven’t started basting them yet, the shipping deadline is April 10th, so I have plenty of time!

Off to keep working on Valentine’s items for the kids parties at school!
