Yep, more finishes!

I had another Honor Quilt for guild that got finished in October. I love quilting these, not just because they are for veterans in our county but also because it also gives me a chance to practice and do something extra for my guild.

Newkirk Welcome Mystery from 2019

Back in 2019 we had a workshop where we did a mystery quilt with Rita Fischel, an Ohio quilter. The quilt was called Newkirk Welcome Mystery and I used fabrics I had previously bought for a block exchange that never happened (Hoffman Challenge fabrics). I ran out of one or both of my accent fabrics (can’t remember after all these years) and managed to find a small quilt shop that had some. The top was finished and just sat for a long time waiting to be quilted.

Newkirk Welcome Mystery from 2025

In 2025, we had another mystery quilt workshop and I found some fabrics in my stash that I had no idea where they came from. The sewing machine fabric might have been picked up on the free table at guild even! Perfect for a mystery quilt! To my surprise this was the same mystery quilt – Newkirk Welcome Mystery! The quilt went together quickly during the workshop, but of course it just sat waiting for backing to be made.

I decided enough was enough and it was time to finish both of these quilts. They both got my usual loops and swirls that I do on anything that’s not getting custom quilted. They were both finished quickly and I got the binding hand stitched down while I watched tv at night.

Hoping to get a few more items finished in the next month or so, right now I have completed 14 out of 72 items which is 19% – I’d love to get to 25% completed for 2026!
