Quilting Update

Well I just finished quilting the Love Is Wallhanging and sewing the binding to the front. I’m going to go and relax by a fire and hand stitch the binding to the back and watch some tv – maybe Series 2 of The Quilt Show that I have on DVD.  I’ll take a picture once the binding is done and it’s hanging on the wall.

Table Runner

Well that certainly didn’t take long, but then I didn’t think it would.  Since the blocks were already cut out all I had to do was chain piece them together and put a border on it.  I think it will look nice on the dining room table this 4th of July….if it’s quilted by then!   Tomorrow is working on the quilting of the Love Is Wallhanging…..it’s not that big, so hopefully I can get it quilted and bound this week.  Then it can get hung in the bedroom.

Well I’m quite proud of myself!  I started and finished the January block of The Quilt Show 2009 BOM – Stars for a New Day.  I had a few issues, and somehow I managed to lose 1/4″ on each side, but I’ll deal with it next month when it gets set on-point.  Now I’m off to start a patriotic table runner, I found some 4″ charm squares when I was looking for fabric for the BOM – it shouldn’t take long to put together.

1st Top of 2009 Finished!

I just finished putting together my 1st top of 2009.  The blocks were from the Quilting Stash Yahoo Group Block Swap in 2007 and I am just now getting it all together.  I pieced the backing from all the leftover fabrics I bought and I even have enough fabric for the binding!  Now onto the next one!

Happy New Year!

Well, with a new year starting, I figured it was time to make some changes to the blog.  The header has a bunch of quilts that I’ve made in the last few years.  I added a list of all the projects that need to be quilted and a list of all the projects I’m working on.  I found the progress bars here.  Now if I can just remember to update them! 🙂

Hope everyone has a wonderful 2009!

Weekend Update

Well I didn’t get any quilting done, but I did get all the candy cane holders done and the hats for my customer in Wisconsin.  Aren’t the candy cane holders cute?????

Have you heard of FabShop Hop?  I’ve been working on the holiday hop while everything stitches out.  Lots of nice prizes if you find enough of the bunny logos.  It’s a good way to find quilt shops online!

Now it’s time to relax a little before bed….tomorrow is a workday, unfortunately.

Christmas Rush

I haven’t been doing much sewing lately, so I’ve let the blog slide a little bit.  After spending the morning and early afternoon working on cookies for an exchange at work (thanks mom & Kimmie for the help!) I started working on all the many things I need to get made for Christmas.  I’m almost halfway done with making candy cane holders for my sister’s kids at day care.  Then I have to make gift card holders, some hats for a customer, a quilt for my girlfriends daughter, and I don’t even remember what else!  The embroidery machine is going to be humming all weekend!  I’m hoping to get back to working on the quilt soon, but I really need to get all this embroidery work done, PLUS I need to get the house decorated for the holidays.  Well, back to work!

Delays

Well, it’s been a few weeks – and was totally unavoidable!  My dog had to have back surgery and then my parents went out of town and I had to stay at their house to watch the dog.  Haven’t had time to get back to posting here.

Yesterday was my birthday and my wonderful husband got me some of the quilting books I wanted.  ABCs of Longarm Quilting (Patricia Barry), The Ultimate Guide to Longarm Machine Quilting (Linda Taylor) and Make Money Quilting (Sylvia Landman).  I asked him if he was trying to tell me something 🙂  I bought a Mini-Pinni quilt frame by The Grace Company last month.  With everything that keeps happening I haven’t been able to go upstairs to practice and learn how to use the doggone thing!  I’m hoping to be able to spend next weekend sewing – with my machine on the frame I can’t even do piecing right now!  Prior to getting the frame I spent an entire weekend and used lots of stash on 5 different items – 2 table runners, a table topper a lap quilt and a wallhanging (pictures below).  I wanted to have things to practice on – unfortunately I’m not even to a point where I can quilt those items!  I’m still trying to figure out how the Sure Stitch works!

I always have some kind of hand project around that I’m working on, the current project is John Flynn’s Wheel of Mystery kit with Fossil Fern Flannel.  I bought it at half price in California last year and decided to do it all by hand.  I’ve got all the pieces put together into 3’s, now I need to start combining them into blocks.  It’s different to be using pre-cut blocks, but they are very nice for doing hand work!  I like having something to sew while we are watching a movie or our tv shows.  Usually it’s something cross-stitch, but I really wanted to work on something different.  If I ever finish this one, I might get another to do – not sure yet.

More Pictures

In 2005 we were building a new house.  Since we were spending soooo much money on the house my husband and I decided not to get each other anything for Christmas.  However, I decided I wanted to make him a quilt for his office in the new house.  I embroidered blocks of different items that he likes or things that we liked to do together.  I went to at least 3 stores before I found the airplane fabric – my husband has his general pilots license.

In 2006, my mom wanted us to work together to make a quilt for my sister for her birthday.  Since she loves ladybugs we couldn’t help but make a lone star quilt out of ladybug fabrics!  Why a complicated quilt?  It wasn’t!  We used QuiltSmart Interfacing to make the star and it was so easy!  So easy that we also made a patriotic lone star for over my mantel!

I have more, but I’ll post them later!

Old Stuff

I have so many projects I’m working on that I don’t know what to post about first.  So I thought I’d post a few pictures of previous projects.

The first picture is of a quilt I made for my husband’s grandmother – fondly called Meemaw.  I printed pictures of various family members on fabric and stitched them into this quilt.  Thank goodness I made it when I did, she only got to enjoy it’s warmth for a year before she was taken from us.

The next 2 are pictures of quilts I made for my girlfriends girls.  They are simple in design, but it was a perfect pattern to showcase the novelty fabrics.

More to come later……need more posts for tomorrow 🙂
