Dear Jane EPP – One Monthly Goal

A2
A2

I’ve been busy working on Dear Jane EPP blocks and finished another one last night. 40 pieces in this block, but it wasn’t too hard. I have A1 prepped and last night I got all the sashing and cornerstones prepped for this row. I got an email yesterday that Row C has shipped, I have a total of 5 blocks left in Row A! I’m not worried about the rows, I’m just going to keep working on them as I can and hopefully I’ll catch up soon!

floralshexieswapI also finished working on basting hexies for the FloralsHexieSwap that I signed up for recently. 30 hexies that I mailed today to Utah to the swap leader. Can’t wait to see what comes back! I’m thinking of signing up for another swap, this time it’s a rainbow swap. I need to see if I have the 6 colors needed and they need to read as solid. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to look through the stash and see what I have, I have until February 20th to make a decision.

Pinwheel tabletopper
Pinwheel Table Topper

I’ve seen quite a few people posting about One Monthly Goal (OMG) lately, so I decided that maybe I needed to do it too! So based on my UFO list for guild, I’m going to say that this months goal is to get the pinwheel table topper  (made in 2008!) and the circle table runner (made last year) quilted. The pinwheel table topper is already pinned and ready to be quilted, and I’ve already cut backing and batting for the table runner, it just needs pinned and quilted. I can’t wait to get the runner finished, I had it on the breakfast bar last fall during Alex’s birthday party and it got icing on it, and I can’t wash it until it’s quilted! Dear Jane EPP – Commission Quilts

A4

I finished 2 more Dear Jane EPP blocks last night while catching up on shows with the hubby. Kids spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa’s, so we had lots of time to do all our show watching. Even watched a movie! A4 was an easy block, there looks to be a bubble in the middle, but that will ease once the papers get taken out. A11 was a bit harder to get everything to fit in together, again I think it will flatten out more once all the papers are taken out. Down to 6 blocks and this row is complete!

A11

I also finished the commissioned quilts I’ve been working on, they need to go through the wash so I can get them shipped out. I will take pictures once they are out of the dryer in the next day or so.

Back in October I joined a hexie swap. All the hexies needed to have words on them. I had gone to Miller’s Dry Goods and bought 3 fabrics that I loved and sent all my hexies in. We just got our hexies back, I have 120 individual hexies with words! She sent some awesome goodies with them, I love the little button! I’m waiting on 2 more swaps to get sent and I just signed up for another one! I don’t know what I’m going to do with all these hexies yet, I can wait until I come up with a plan though!

More EPP Finishes

I finished another Dear Jane EPP block the other day, and almost finished another last night. So right now I have 5 of the 13 blocks in the first row completed, soon to be 6. I’m a little behind, but that’s ok, this is totally a long term project! I’m enjoying the process!

Everyone in the house, except Alex, was sick over the weekend and I couldn’t get into my office to prep another Dear Jane EPP block, so I worked on hexie insanity instead. Just 3 more of these to do and I’ll need to restock my container with more hexies. Still a LONG way to go on this project too, but it doesn’t bother me in the least!

Today I’m working on the labels for the 2 commission quilts and attaching the binding to the front so this weekend I can work on hand stitching it to the back. I’d like to get these shipped out next week if possible! So back to work!!

More finishes!

I’ve been busy this week! I pulled out a table runner that was already basted and just needed quilted. I still need to wash it and get the markings out of it, but I like how it looks. I went out of my comfort zone and decided to try something other than straight line quilting and went with corner to corner arcs. After marking the first few columns I started doing the rest without marking and it wasn’t as hard as I thought. I have a lot of UFO’s to quilt, maybe I can do some custom quilting on them instead of just doing straight line quilting.

I finished another Dear Jane EPP block the other night, A10. I’m really liking doing these by hand with EPP. Doing them by machine too me forever, these are only taking me an evening while watching TV. I now have 4 of the 169 blocks done for a total of 63 pieces.

Two more diamonds are done for Hexie Insanity, only 88 more diamonds to put together! I’m still loving this project, it’ll be at least a year, if not more before it’s completed. I can’t wait to see it all together though!

Should have more finishes soon!

Update Time!

pattern-hexies-090816Ok, I know it’s been awhile. We’ve been busy around here! Lots of camping in various states, and just this week my baby, Alex, started Kindergarten! I still can’t believe he’s old enough to get on the bus and go to school. Tonight was guild night and I managed to finish the blue diamond and get almost all of the pink one completed. Just need a little bit of white and another one goes into the done bin. We had a speaker tonight who does fusible applique and I just had to buy this pattern. She showed table runners, varying sizes of quilts and even mug rugs using the pattern. Not sure what I’ll make, or when, but I had to have it!

I’m busy trying to get the Mario quilt done, I’m working on the borders and now have 3 of them pieced. Hopefully I can get the last one pieced tomorrow and get them layered and quilted this weekend. I entered it into the quilt show, but that’s only if I can get it completed in time – I have 4 weeks until they have to be turned in and I just might be able to do it!

Hopefully be back soon with another update.

Hexie Insanity Update and a Win!

Hexi Insanity 013116It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on Hexie Insanity. I’ve been working on getting the white on white pathways attached to all my diamonds that were already put together. I have about 7 left (I think) that need the pathways and then I can start making more diamonds! I have all the single hexies completed (in the small container in the right corner) and ready to be put to use in the pattern. I really want to get all the diamonds completed before I decide how I want this to look, follow a pattern, rainbow, random? I’m sort of thinking a controlled random – so the same colors aren’t near each other but we’ll see. I still have 103 diamonds left to make! I also have 42 flowers left to make for the border, last summer I started putting the first border together, only to shift focus to the diamond pathways instead. It will get finished eventually, I knew it would be a slow, couple year project when I started it.

Scrap Win 013116I enter giveaways all the time and while I can’t say I never win, I hardly ever win. Last week I got an email saying that I had won a giveaway for some fabric scraps and she needed my address to send them. I thought it was a hoax! Once I searched on the email address and found the blog again, re-engineered, I remembered entering the giveaway. I love all the purples! I’ll have to keep them in the bag so they don’t get mixed up with my stash so I can make something with all of them.

Hope to be back this week with another finish, I have a table runner that I want to see if I can make and finish!

Another finished top!

Hexie Diamonds 123115In June 2012 I finished my first hexagon quilt and started the next one – Hexie Diamonds. It was supposed to be finished in 2013 and used as a quilt for the bed in our trailer – but I worked on it slow and didn’t finish it when I thought I would. In July 2014 I finished the center – all 2,473 hexagons! It’s taken me another 17 months to put the borders on! I’m happy to say it’s now a finished top, not the best picture but the best place to take a picture is the living room floor and the kids have toys all over the place still! With all my top finishes I’m up to 16 that need quilting – so I guess 2016 will be a year of quilting!

Hunters Star 123115My brother-in-law got my name this year and got me The Big Bang Theory Lego set (we love that show!) and the Hunter’s Star Go die. I made one block last night after we got home and I THINK I have enough of the same fabric to make another. I’ll turn it into a table runner if I can find some fabric that matches it. It’ll be cute for Valentine’s Day!

My fabric is on it’s way for Star Crazy, I’m not seeing a tracking number but it’s coming USPS Priority Mail and it’s only a few hours south, so I’m hoping it will be here Saturday. We have no plans for the weekend and I hope to spend as much time as I can in my office sewing!

I hope to be back later and do a year in review post, might not get to it today though we are heading back down to my mother-in-laws to spend time with family before they leave tomorrow.

Linking up with Needle and Thread Thursday.

Scrappy Finish

Scrappy 9 patch with hexi applique 122615I started working on this on November 21, 2013. Here it is 2 years later and I’ve finally completed the top! I don’t know why I have this aversion to finishing tops – I have a bunch that just need the borders and they’d be considered complete. This was based on a quilt I saw on either Facebook or Pinterest – who remembers now? – and I changed the applique part to hexies instead of whatever they had – I don’t even remember what it was now. I already know how I want to quilt this, I just have a few quilts that are getting quilted first. Everything was cut either on my Go or my Studio and I’m thrilled that I used up all these scraps! 517 2.5″ squares were used in this quilt and I will use a few more because I’m planning on putting some hexies on the border at some point. I might even wait until after it’s quilted since they will be appliquéd on anyway.

I pulled out a VERY old quilt from 2009 that I want to keep working on to get the top finished – again it just needs the borders finished. Hopefully I’ll have an update on it soon, I know it won’t be tonight because it needs 4 borders and the one I’m working on now is 1.5″ HST! I also might have some news to announce soon!

Another Finish!!

Red and White challenge front 121815
Red/White Challenge – Front

We had a red/white quilt challenge at guild and I managed to design, create, quilt, and finish it with a few days to spare!I loved creating this in EQ7 and couldn’t wait to start piecing it. That was the easy part! I knew when I was piecing it that I wanted to do “cross-hatching” through the checkerboard border and 1/4″ inside the seam lines on the center, but I had NO idea what I wanted to do with the quilting on the inner border with the hexies. It sat on my sewing table for a couple of weeks before I realized that my deadline was fast approaching. So I very slowly and carefully stitched in the background around each hexie diamond and flower, and in the center of each one. I added a quilted hexie in between the flowers too. It turned out so much better than I imagined! I haven’t finished very many quilts this year, but this one is definitely one that I am proud of, not only did I design the whole thing, but it the top was made entirely out of fabrics I had in the cupboard. I had to buy the backing which I also used on the binding and I think it sets it off. As I was sitting at my desk today I realized I have the perfect place to hang it – right above my desk! Will have to get something to use for hanging and get it up on the wall soon! The challenge is on-going and I might do another one for our next deadline in July, I have some more ideas floating around my head. Maybe a red work one that I can do on the embroidery machine. We will have all of these challenge quilts hanging in our quilt show next October and I will be entering it into the county fair as well.

Shopping and Hexie Insanity

Shopping 081115We were camping over the weekend down near Millersburg so mom and I decided to take a trip over to Miller’s Dry Goods on Friday. I found a few things that I could use 🙂 The panel is for the back of Alex’s bed quilt (that I need to get working on!) and so is the Thomas yardage. The white on white (hexagons!) and the Moda Marbles is for the hexie insanity quilt. My mom bought the rolled up fabric for Cassie, it’s an ABC book I need to put together for her. I also got some Aurifil thread in white for hexie insanity, but it’s already in the workbox. It was a nice shop but it’s almost 2 hours from our house to get there, it was only a half hour from the campground we were at. They have TONS of Moda Marbles colors, I simply loved the one I bought called Sea Glass. I’m debating buying more of it to use for the solid border in hexie insanity, I only need about 3 yards of fabric for that border alone, but I’ll decide that later, at least I know where I can get some more colors!!

hexi insanity 081115So I already cut up that half yard of Moda Marbles on the Studio so i can start using it. Didn’t take but 15 minutes to cut into 760 2″ squares and a small amount of waste. Now I can baste and make some flowers and diamonds with it! Planning on cutting up that new white as well, get it mixed in with all the other whites I have prepped. I finished adding the white path on another diamond and have a second almost done – both worked on during the camping trip.

I have a few quilts that need backs and quilting, I need to get the commission quilt finished before the end of the month and that is at the top of the list. Looks like this week is going to be busier than I thought so I don’t know if I’ll get to work on it or not. Certainly going to try!
